PRESS RELEASE: Swedish Hill Celebrates 30 Years
Romulus, NY ̶ March 9, 2015 ̶ In 1986 Dick and Cindy Peterson released five wines under their new winery, Swedish Hill. That year they produced 1200 cases of wine for their single tasting room. Today their son, Dave, along with his wife Jean and their daughter Amanda Fitzgerald, manage the production of over 60,000 cases annually for three wineries and six tasting rooms.
To say that the winery has exceeded the family’s expectations when they began growing grapes as a part time endeavor would be an understatement. Dave Peterson commented on his family’s history with the winery stating “It’s hard to believe that it has been 30 years since my parents started the winery. Their plan was to make a couple thousand cases each year as their ‘retirement project’ while they continued their full time jobs in the community. When I look back it is because of the support of our customers, employees, and the Finger Lakes wine community that my family is able to continue producing premium wines, and that is very humbling and gratifying.”
The Peterson family’s Swedish Hill winery alone has received consistent recognition as an award-winning winery with three Governor’s Cups, five “Winery of the Year” awards in just the past four years, and a long list of gold medal accolades from competitions around the world in the last three decades. This year to commemorate the success of reaching their 30th year a special celebration will take place at their Romulus, NY winery on June 4th.
The June 4th Anniversary Celebration will feature the warehouse sale that their customers look forward to each year, except the family has guaranteed that this year’s sale will be the biggest in its history! Each year customers line up at the tasting room before the sale starts, making passersby wonder if it is Black Friday. This year’s sale will have the biggest discounts on the largest selection of wines ever seen before.
The celebration will also feature live music by the band Under Construction from 1 to 4pm with barbeque food, wine and wine slushies available for purchase. And for the first time ever there will be a vertical tasting with owner Dave Peterson and members of the winemaking team of their meritage wine, Optimus. Tickets for the vertical tasting will be $10 per person and can be purchased by calling the winery at (607) 403-0029. Tickets for the vertical tasting will be limited but the celebration is a free event for the general public who can also partake in a traditional wine tasting in the tasting room with the standard tasting fees.
Swedish Hill Winery is located in Romulus, NY on Route 414 about ten minutes south of Seneca Falls. Customers can also taste Swedish Hill wines at two satellite tasting rooms located in Saratoga Springs and Lake Placid, NY.
